Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Summit Brewing Sága IPA & Sága Hazy IPA

I first tasted beer from today’s brewery sitting on a beach in North Carolina, and I remember thinking just how good their pale ale was and how perfect it was for beach “sampling.” Naturally I’m excited to get a care package from them at mybeerbuzz headquarters today and get an early peek at the new packaging and a new variant for one of their classics.

I’m talking about Summit Brewing and today we’re checking out the redesigned Sága IPA and the new Sága Hazy IPA. Starting in April, Summit will be introducing the “Sága Goddess Series” and with that comes a redesign of the original and some new variants.

As Summit Brewing’s founder and president puts it, “Sága originally got its name because of the journey it took to discover it,” Summit Founder & President Mark Stutrud said. “When we dug a bit deeper, we found that Sága was not only Odin’s drinking buddy, but the Goddess of prophecy and wisdom and was said to have inspired storytellers and poets. It’s only fitting the next chapter of this story focuses on the Goddess and what she stands for. It’s a great opportunity for us to build on something the community has embraced for the last decade and encourage them to keep creating and sharing stories.”

Before we jump in, I should mention how great the packaging update looks. The cans are easily recognizable with bold colors and a strong Goddess identity and they still retain the original family resemblance.

Since I’ve reviewed Sága IPA several times, I’ll focus on the new kid on the block. Up first in the series is Sága Hazy IPA and it is actually being released today (April 7th). As a big fan of  Sága IPA I’m excited to sample the new variant, so off we go…Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Summit Brewing Sága IPA & Sága Hazy IPA

Summit Brewing Sága IPA

Brewery Description:

Join Sága the goddess with her new Sága Hazy IPA. Explore the senses with bright aromas of mango, grapefruit, tangerine and passion fruit. This beer will greet you with a pillowy head and a soft bitterness resulting in a smooth finish full of flavor and worthy of the gods.

Sága is said to have been known to enjoy a fine drink or two in the presence of Odin at Sökkvabekkr, perhaps the haze reminds her of the mist of the waterfall near the sunken bank. Find it on draught, in 12-packs of 12oz cans and 4-packs of 16oz cans.

ABV:  7%
IBU:  55
Style:  Hazy IPA
Packaging:  12oz cans
Appearance:  Bright Gold
Aroma:   Citrus & tropical fruits
Mouthfeel:   Medium and soft
Taste:   Bright grapefruit and oranges with late sticky tropical fruit.
Overall:  Sága Hazy IPA is a refreshing take on the original IPA. I really liked the fruit-forward profile of the beer and how nicely the hops were presented in the overall flavor. The punch of citrus and tropical fruit is really well balanced and the hop flavors are not overwhelming or overly bitter. Overall I found this beer to be really enjoyable and drinkable and while I hate to admit it, I may actually like it better than the original.

Summit Brewing Sága Hazy IPA is available now in 12oz cans with 16oz cans and kegs coming as well across Summit’s distribution footprint; so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU thinkzzubreebym
