Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Flying Dog Vicious Hook (Review)Back in February I brought you an early peek at an exciting new sour coming soon from Flying Dog in Frederick, MD. The beer of course had a cool name and some cool Ralph Steadman artwork, and I knew even then that it would be good.

The beer is called Vicious Hook and it is not only a fruit punch sour ale, but also Flying Dog’s first major sour release and according to their PR, “Vicious Hook is a one-two combo of sweet and tart that stuns you with a pucker punch.”

The beer was originally pitched for a Brewhouse Rarities release but it turned out to be an employee favorite and ultimately a new release into distribution. As a Kool-Aid and Hawaiian Punch drinker in my childhood, I naturally couldn’t wait to taste Vicious Hook…so off we go.Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Flying Dog Vicious Hook (Review)

Flying Dog Vicious Hook

ABV:  5.3%
Style:  Sour Ale
Packaging:  12oz bottles
Appearance:  Hazy watermelon pink
Aroma:  Tropical fruit, sweet cherries & citrus
Mouthfeel:   Light bodied & effervescent
Taste:   Sweet cherry, pineapple and orange up front with a punch of tart citrus at the end
Overall:  Vicious Hook really does live up to it’s name.  The beer has all of the pleasant and sweet qualities of a mixed fruit punch (like Hawaiian Punch) with a late and somewhat sudden shift to tart and ultimately really sharp sour. The blend of flavors is really drinkable and after a few sips the sour punch eases up making for a really fun and satisfying beer.

Flying Dog Vicious Hook was released on 8/3 in 12oz bottles (6-packs) so get out there and take a punch for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
