Technically, the first day of fall comes with the autumnal equinox on September 22. But when the Old Farmer's Almanac was founded in 1792, we were not yet brewing beer. If we were, they surely would have used the release of our Oktoberfest as the annual marker.
In any case, we're going to open up an Oktoberfest, thumb through the almanac and pretend it's fall. Take that, Robert B. Thomas.
