Coronado, CA, September 23, 2014 — As Coronado Brewing heads into the fall, they made one last

stop for a holiday and collaboration brew in Devizes, England. Head Brewer Ryan Brooks made the

trek to brew Coronado’s Mermaid’s Red Ale with Brian Yorston of Wadworth & Company. This

American Amber Ale was produced for JD Wetherspoon Brewpub’s as an entry in their American

Craft Beer Showcase. The showcase features various American craft breweries; all of which are

brought to the U.K. to brew at various breweries throughout the country.

Ryan and Brian brewed the Mermaid’s Red Ale as a cask beer in August and made a 500 bbl batch

for JD Wetherspoon’s. However, this isn’t the same beer Coronado’s patrons are used to. The two

brewers put a twist on the traditional recipe by using all English ingredients.

The grain bill for this beer showcased all English grain-- a heritage varietal of Pale malt, and some

light & dark caramel malts. The hop varieties were Challenger for bittering and a heavy does of

Cascade in the whirlpool, and even more Cascade in the dry hop. The finished product being an

American influenced Amber Ale showcasing the beautiful English yeast character with light fruity

esters. This Amber Ale has a traditional English flavor with the aroma of West Coast Amber Ale.
