Police Ask UK Shops In Ipswich to Ban “Super-Strength” Beer

imageHere’s an interesting story coming from the BBC for Ipswich where shop owners are being asked to stop selling beer & cider over 6.5% ABV.  Details from the BBC:

Shopkeepers in Ipswich are being asked to stop selling beer and cider with an alcohol volume above 6.5%. 

Suffolk Police wants shops to voluntarily change their license to prevent sales of the drink and says Tesco and Co-op have already signed up. 

In a town centre off license, a 500ml can of 9% lager costs £1.30 and a 7.5% can of cider costs 99p. 

Area commander Andrew Mason said it was available for as little as 69p, which he described as "pocket money".
