The twitter feed below may be hard to follow in reverse, but Lagunitas Brewing held a meeting today to start direct purchase of barley to de-commodify the grain purchasing prices. Lagunitas followed Anchor Brewing’s lead and did a similar direct-buy with hops previously, but this is fairly new territory with grains. This fair-price fair-trade policy will benefit both the brewery AND farmer and I suspect we’ll see more and more of this arrangement in the future.
